A new year, a new job...

Hi,

My last post is a bit more than one month, but there are good reasons for that. I left my company by mid-december, joined a new one this monday, and was enjoying family in the meantime. I will probably have a lower update rate in the next few weeks/monthes, but this is no reason not to wish you all the best for 2010.

Mon dernier post date de plus d'un mois, mais il y a de bonnes raisons à cela. J'ai quitté mon ancienne société à la mi décembre, en ai rejoint une nouvelle ce lundi, et ai profité de la famille entre les deux. Durant les prochaines semaines/mois, mon taux de mise à jour va probablement chuter, mais ce n'est pas une raison pour ne pas vous souhaiter à tous mes meilleurs voeux pour 2010.

Work is in progress, but...

I have strong pro. activity this week, so will not be able to really work and even less to post illustrated news on the Victrix project before next week probably. However, I could paint the 4 Highlanders in separate elements (body+head, arms, backpack) and found it far easier and probably faster than painting them once fully built. I say "probably", because I didn't paint them the "fast way" so I cannot really compare. I think a compromise between fast painting and real painting is about to arise. I also tried first basings, and definately, cannot base them coherently with 1.5x1.5 cms frontage. A try with 2x2 cm frontage was made and even if I loose the "mass effect", I seriously ask myself about rebasing all my 28mm minis on this standard. So far, I just have about 80 of them as I only started 28mm armies recently with Victrix and Perry's plastics, so I have to make my mind, because it's now or never.

(fr) Forte activité professionnelle cette semaine... Je n'ai pas le temps de travailler sur mon projet Victrix, et encore moins d'en poster l'avance. Quoiqu'il en soit, j'ai pu peindre les 4 Highlanders en éléments séparés (tronc+tête, bras, sac à dos). J'ai trouvé ce procédé bien plus simple et probablement plus rapide qu'une peinture sur une pièce entièrement assemblée. Je dis "probablement" car ces 4 figs. n'ont pas été peintes en "fast painting", mais avec beaucoup plus de travail. Il est bien possible qu'un compromis soit en train d'apparaitre entre les deux techniques de peinture... J'ai aussi commencé le soclage, et il apparait clairement qu'un soclage sur un front de 1,5x1,5cm ne donne pas un résultat très cohérent. Un autre essai en 2x2cm donne de bien meilleurs résultats, même si l'aspect masse disparait totalement. Je me demande vraiement si je ne vais pas basculer mon soclage sous ce second standard... Ayant commencé le 28mm récemment avec les figs plastiques Victrix et Perry, je n'ai encore qu'assez peu de troupes (~80), donc le resoclage reste raisonnablement envisageable. A moi de voir...

Still waiting my highlanders...

It's about one month now, and I still haven't received my Victrix Highlanders now. It starts to be long now, but my reseller seems to be innocent as his order haven't been sended by Victrix yet. So I took it easy, am still waiting and killed time by working on some 10mm miniatures I had in my pile for long. I'm quite happy with them and plan sharing pictures soon.

(fr) Voici maintenant un mois, et j'attends toujours mes Highlanders de Victrix. Ca commence à faire long, mais mon fournisseur m'assure qu'il n'y est pour rien et qu'il n'a toujours pas été livré par Victrix. Ayant déja commandé chez lui, et sachant comment il travaille, je le crois. Donc, j'ai pris mon mal en patience et me suis attaqué à quelques figs en 10mm que j'avais en stock depuis longtemps. Je trouve le résultat plutot sympa et compte le partager ici prochainement.

My name is Bruno and I am a french modeler leaving in Paris, France.

Being a modeler for very long, I have interest "phasis" that are looping from ship or plane modeling to miniatures. I am currently at the beginning of yet another new wargaming miniature phasis. As I searched for 15mm austrian napoleonics review I found MacPhee's Miniature blog in front of which I dreamed during most of past evening. So, I decided to create my own.

Why ? Simply because it is very hard to find reviews of lead 15mm miniatures and manufacturer's sites such as Old Glory 15 do not provide picture. During the past 20 years I have built a lot of armies. I still have some of theim, and even if not playing any-more (not yet at least), I regret not to have kept them all. I plan to review the miniatures I have and share my new creations on this blog, and that will not only cover miniatures.

Coming back to the historical wargaming figure after a 5+ years break, I also have the sad feeling that this hobby is somewhat struggling in the way I knew it. Some new areas are better covered (especially WWII), but prices of miniatures are crazy, and it is very difficult to find them now (at least in France which I am from). I will also talk about that.
